Junan Crawley
My design journey commenced with my studies in Architecture at the Belfast School of Art. Following the completion of my bachelor's degree, I transitioned to the world of clay and casting. My commitment to authenticity in my design work prompted the creation of Skwid Studio, where I am able to maintain full control over my designs.
The choice to focus on crafting homeware stemmed from a desire to infuse artistic character into my small apartment space. Clay emerged as the ideal medium, both for its accessibility and suitability within the confines of a small living space.
Casting then opened up a realm of possibilities for exploring colours and textures. It essentially broadened the horizons of my design, allowing me to replicate the clay forms that had been crafted with an abundance of time and a great attention to detail.
Skwid Studio
Skwid Studio is devoted to the artistry of handcrafted, organic shapes brought to life through the medium of Jesmonite. Through the art of casting, we craft genuine, voluminous pieces defined by their timeless, organic forms and a monochromatic palette, ensuring they seamlessly blend into any space whilst simultaneously commanding attention.
Our pieces are a fusion of movement, flow, and static, all woven into one. This harmony between dynamism and tranquility extends beyond the final designs. It reflects the way we approach our work, where each day brings unique experiences, fostering mindfulness and a state of creative flow.
The fluidity of our creative process is mirrored in the fluidity of the final forms.
